Having written to all schools asking for comments regarding a possible postponement of this year’s tournament, we received responses from 24 schools and the Committee is grateful to all those who participated.
It has become increasingly obvious that holding the Halford Hewitt in April 2021 is not a viable proposition.
The Committee has been looking for dates later in the year which may, all being well, give a better chance of staging the event successfully. We are delighted to announce that, subject to Covid restrictions, we have been able to reschedule the 2021 tournament which will now be played from Thursday September 9th to Sunday September 12th.
Unfortunately, Royal St George’s Golf Club have some prior commitments on Thursday 9th September which cannot be altered. As a result, the first and second rounds of the tournament will be played over the links of Royal Cinque Ports and Prince’s Golf Clubs.
Happily, Royal St George’s are able to help us out on Friday 10th September and have agreed to host the first round of the Plate. This means we shall be able to have a full tournament, albeit later in the year than normal.
The Committee would like to thank the members of all three host clubs for the efforts they have made to clear their diaries for the Halford Hewitt. It is a clear sign of how much they value the tournament and it is greatly appreciated.
Entry forms and instructions will be issued to schools within the next few weeks.
The Committee has also agreed to defer the AGM and draw in order to improve the chances of it being as normal as possible. We are in correspondence with the East India Club about a suitable date at the end of June and as soon as this is established a notice will be issued.
